Did I mention...

...we went to South Beach?

How to describe South Beach? A giant mating ritual by the waterhole maybe? IT. WAS. CRAZY. There were so many people on the beach that most people were standing rather than sitting in the sand (Auburn people: it was eerily similar to Auburn Rodeo except everyone was standing on a beach in bikinis). What made our trip even more exciting was we accidentally stumbled upon the Victoria Secret Miami Spring Break party, and a new TV series was also being shot on Ocean Drive at the same time. I guess that's just a normal day in South Beach... Victoria Secret, TV cameras and did I mention shopping with your parrot? (bottom left bunny and parrot)

Well, that's the scoop from SB 2011!

::Miami Update::

After a 10-hour car ride that included standing up through the sunroof to get a picture of a car with a painting of Batman tearing through the hood (which was actually a painting of a grizzly bear) and lots and lots of Florida tolls, we finally made it to Miami.

And I must say,  Miami is no disappointment.  After a day at the beach, my brother-in-law, Ryan, took us to his favorite pit-stop - a Colombian dive called "La Moon" which had the most luscious burgers I've ever put in my mouth.  La Moon hasn't made any "must-see" lists for Miami that I've read, but it should (Although, it was featured on Man vs. Food for good reason - sooo much food).  Instead of being served on a bun, the Crazy Moon Arepa Burger is served on an "arepa" or corn pancake, and the burger is topped with a over-hard fried egg, ham, bacon, cheese, potato sticks and a mysterious but delicious "6 sauces." I wouldn't be surprised if they got another visit from us this week.

After La Moon, we all headed to South Beach to visit Miami's pedestrian street, Lincoln Rd, where we sat outside Zeke's Roadhouse, drank beer and people watched late into the night. What great atmosphere.

I can't get over this city.  I love the zillion-floor skyscrapers lit like Christmas trees at night, the lush foliage that surprisingly surrounds all the tall buildings, walking to the grocery store in the 75 degree weather and the Spanish everywhere.  And we've only been here two days. Adios from Miami!

ROADTRIPS:

Have I ever mentioned that I love riding in the car?  It's more than that I think... I LOVE CARS: sleeping in them, singing in them, driving them.  It's fascinating to me that on the highway, everyone is riding around in their own little world.  I love to make up stories about people in the cars next to me in traffic, and I must say, I'm a champion at the alphabet car game.

Three years ago, when David and I were in our first year of dating, we pushed the limits of how much we enjoyed each other's company and drove to Mexico.  At the end of our 16 hour road trip, we were meeting the rest of an RUF group (who had flown) for a mission trip.

With a pound of sour patch kids, a playlist of songs about Mexico, a giant road atlas, and some 5-hour energy drinks, we hit the road.  And I must say, it was quite an adventure - especially since we drove down in my Volkswagen beetle which hit 100,000 miles in Texas.  We sang with the windows down in the heat, only to have to beg for water in a small, random strip mall.

Now, two years later, we're off again.  Tomorrow, we're driving from Auburn to Miami to see the Tufts (about 11 hours)! Can't wait to be with family, friends and sit in the sun...
